Dear Friends,

WHAT’S NEW? Unconditional Love! Hanging out in spiritual circles all the time exposes me to much talk and debate about how to live a happy, healthy and passionate live. Certainly there are thousands of teachers out there and honestly – we are all basically saying the same thing – right?

So why is it that when it comes to unconditional love we simply fall short? It’s not like we haven’t heard about it, learned about it, and been preached to about it before. Personally, I believe this is one of the hardest pieces on a spiritual path because to be able to love unconditionally we must give up judgment and ego to do so. It isn’t a concept to be agreed with – but a way of life. It means no matter what someone does – you love them, but that doesn’t mean you don’t set a boundary with them if they are taking actions that are creating suffering in your world. After all, you are not a doormat!

This is the key: being spiritual does not mean you accept unhealthy behavior from others. It does not mean you judge them as bad people or idiots either. If they are being hurtful it is because they are suffering and that has nothing to do with you at all (don’t engage your ego). Have compassion and set a boundary from love, not from fear and carry on. I want to know what you think about this and what YOUR experience is – please post below and let me know!

Take a moment to watch this video!

Every once in a while I find a video that is so powerful in its simplicity – this is one of those. Having studied with don Miguel Ruiz for 8 years – I know that the “impeccability of the word” is critical to the way we create our reality. Watch how just a simple change in the way something is worded can change a person’s life. Today I challenge you to step back before you speak and think about what you want to say – and see if you can word your message in a more uplifting way. And do post something below and let me know what you think! PS: If this video is glitchy – press the “watch on You Tube” button to see it directly on their site.

Unity pendant

Dr. Steve McSwain is an author (of The Enoch Factor: The Sacred Art of Knowing God), speaker, thinker, interfaith activist, nice guy and spiritual teacher. He encourages people to embrace a new kind of spirituality, one that connects people to God and to other human beings, regardless of race, ethnicity, or religious persuasion. “The survival of humanity,” says Dr. McSwain, “requires an end to the insanity of assuming, ‘We’re in; You’re out!’ ‘We’re Right, You’re Wrong!’ ‘We’re the Chosen Ones, You’re Not!”

He created this beautiful pendant (that I adore) to be worn to promote a more conscious, compassionate, and charitable world, especially among the great religions of the world. As the Dalai Lama has often said, “When there is peace among the religions, there will be peace in the world.” You can pick up a Unity Pendant on his website for $69.99 (and no, I’m not benefiting in any way from this suggestion) While you are there – take time to read the text on the pendant page – it’s really interesting!

  1. JD says:

    Thanks Sheri!
I really enjoyed examining your word “spiritual rebel” I think that ties in with this months newsletter. I find that Its hard to set boundaries, when you feel anger or justified. Like for instance my girlfriend, texts other guys, from my point of view all the time when Im around her. Then if I did something like that, she would retaliate. So separating myself from the story and setting boundries with love and respect, isnt with me in the moment. You say taking action is the best thing to do. So whats a productive way to look at myself and communicate, if the situation arises again. And I feel like she is creating something thats going against us. I have dreams that she is hooking up with other people.

    • Dear JD,
Glad to see you posting! Have you considered that your girlfriend feels as insecure about herself as you feel about yourself – and by texting other men she is trying to get you to prove to her that you care about her by getting jealous? What she does is not about you – it reflects her issues. What is about you is your fear of losing her. Let that go and be present for her and I bet she stops texting. IF she does not – then have a chat and set a boundary with love and explain that it is not pleasant what she is doing and ask if she is doing this to get you to prove your love to her. She might not be honest with you in her answer – but at least you will be able to see where she is coming from. In the end you must decide if this is the type of person you want to be with and work with your own self-worth.
You are a great guy – you just have to believe that and live that. xoxox Sheri

  2. Francisco says:

For me is a true challenge to love unconditionally but is also a challenge to understand when some body is “hurting” because some time we suffer when we take personally things that are not. In my life I have a good relationship with my wife, and I’ve been suffering because she and my children are 5000 miles away from me (since 6 years ago), because she doesn’t want to live in USA, and I bealive that staying here is the best I can do for my family to economically “survive”having a cerebral palsy child. So I work to no take personally that she wants to live in Mexico and seeing my best options, learning unconditional love. But first unconditionally love my self. Very often I write that question to infinite in my notebook: How is it feel to unconditionally love my self? because neither I know how is it feel. Understand with mind is easy but understand with feelings is different.

    • Dear Francisco,
You are in a very difficult situation angel – but I commend you for wanting to make your child’s life better. Both of you have made life choices that have nothing to do with each other. I have to ask myself why your wife does not want to be with you? Does she have a fear of leaving home or a lack of love for you on some level? Either way it is not personal to you even if she does not love you enough to be with you and allow her child to be with it’s father. That is her own issue entirely. If someone else does not love us the way we wish to be loved that is about them – not about us. Same thing if she does not want to come to the states because she is afraid for whatever reason – or does not want to leave her job, family or friends. What I know is if we want something enough we will make it happen. So I can only assume that she does not want to be here enough – what is in the US is not more important to her than what she has back home – whether what she has back home is fear, a great job, family or whatever. We can’t make people do what we want. On your side, if you have the need to be here and feel that the money you make here is worth being away – then that is your choice and maybe to her your desire to be here or to do for you child is more important than your love for her. Who knows? The bottom line: either your mind or your heart leads the way. You don’t need to know how to love unconditionally – it isn’t about knowing – it is who you are! It is to reconnect with what is already present and ever existent. If you do that you will enjoy your life, accept what is, and have fun. Maybe the two of you simply have an out-of-the-box relationship and you work best that way. Only the two of you know the truth of what is going on – but to able to be really honest about what that is and come to terms with it – is the warrior’s way. Love, Sheri xoxoox

  3. Kim says:

Hi Sheri <3 The Power of Words video brought me to tears. And thank you for reminding us about unconditional (non-judgmental) love and compassionate, loving boundaries. It is challenging to put into practice!

Do you know when your next Gulfport meet-up will be? xoxoxox I love you, thank you <3

  4. Lisa says:

What if someone is threatening to your harm your child? Do you still show unconditional love?

    • Dear Lisa,
What a fabulous question. As I said, we are not doormats. We do not have to accept someones behavior if it is creating suffering. We can understand that people who take actions to hurt others are suffering themselves and are living in a state of unawareness of the fact that they are divine and the person they are hurting is divine. We all fall into that ego-trap until we totally awake on our spiritual path. When we are more concerned with fulfilling our selfish needs at the cost of anothers’ welfare we create pain. When we understand this we can have compassion rather than anger since we see ourselves in them. When we put anger out, another person can “eat” that anger and use that energy to hurt another person and then the cycle of pain never ends. But if each of us stops the anger within us and sends love and light to those who threaten us – eventually things will change. You can change your anger and righteous indignation to compassion to start with – even if you are not able to send love and light right now, that is good enough to start. But a spiritual path requires action and that means if someone is harming your child you take action rather than getting upset. Use your personal power to effect a change rather than draining it your in anger. I know you are wise angel and your heart will guide you.
      Blessings & love, Sheri xoxxo

  5. Flame says:

Sheri I enjoyed the newsletter. Setting boundaries in self-love & love for others unconditionally is key. We are only responsible for our own happiness, and they are for theirs. We’ve got to stop mothering & smothering everyone. Enabling others & ourselves to not grow up. We need to be inner mommies to ourselves. We can’t save anyone but ourselves. We can teach & leave others the tools but they must decide what to do with them. Spirit is also recognizing the fact you got to Let Go when it’s time. Forcing others is not only a violation of their Freewill it is also of yours.

  6. joyce miles says:

I saw the video of this blind man & those beautiful changing words. I know if I would only stop & think how I said it to whomever . Taking the time to be sweet, to say kind words, to send love & light can change the darkness to beauty.
