Hormiguero

Please join us for an amazing adventure to the remote jungles of the south-eastern aspect of the Mayan Yucatan including Mexico and Belize. We explore the newly opened and recently uncovered ruins in this mysterious part of the Yucatan. It is not unusual to spot howler and spider monkeys here or large cats! Visitors to this area of the jungle are far and few and we will have the opportunity to explore places that are still lost in time as this area is still pristine.

Just to reach our hotel in Lamanai we must journey by boat, traveling up the New River through the jungle. At Rancho Encantado in Bacalar, we spend our time in cabins at the edge of a crystal clear sand bottom lake. We can walk out of our rooms and go directly in the lake for a swim, have a Hawaiian lomi-lomi massage with Mallina, or treat ourselves to the deluxe "Goddess Spa Treatment." To view the menu of spa treatments click here: Rancho Encantado. Weather permitting, we may spend one night on the grounds of the ruins atop the pyramid for a very powerful all night meditation ceremony

During this journey we create the opportunity for personal transformation through beautiful ceremony and ritual. The energy of these powerful ruins assists us in revealing the truth of who we really are. Journeying inward, we illuminate the world we create from the beliefs in our own minds. Engaging the Toltec practices of Dreaming and Mastery of Awareness training, we learn to recover our personal power and ability to love unconditionally. Exploring the undiscovered places in the jungle of our own minds allows us to live our truth and make our life choices with clarity and grace. In addition, we learn how to set boundaries in life with kindness and love. We would be honored if you would join on this unusual journey!

As is typical for a Journeys of the Spirit retreat, you will experience class time daily, time for sharing with the group, reflection and meditation time, and one-on-one personal time with your group leader (along with fun and shopping time too of course!). It is our intent that you return home with an open heart and mind along with the tools you need to make the changes in your life you desire.

Please take a look at some pictures from out last trip to theSouthern Yucatan!

Daily Schedule

Spiritual Retreat Calakmul

Day 1- (-/-/d) We leave the US today and meet in Belize City, Belize. From there we begin our journey with a boat ride on the New River to our beautiful hotel. Arrive at the lovely Lamanai Outpost Lodge in Belize for dinner and a restful night amongst the sound of the jungle and howler monkeys.

Day 2- (b/l/d) Today we have an exciting day of exploration. First we spend the morning with the Mennonites who have a large community along the New River. They supply a good amount of food and produce to the country and are well regarded here for their contributions. We will join them for lunch so we can ask questions on their lifestyle and religious practices. Then in the late afternoon we will go on a Mayan medicine walk to learn about the plant medicine that is still in use here. Once it is dark we will continue our adventures with a spotlight river safari looking for creatures of the night!

Day 3- (b/l/d) Take a boat up the New River to the magical ruins of Lamanai in Belize. We enjoy the morning exploring ourselves and the ruins. Back to the lodge by boat and continue on by bus to Rancho Encantado in Bacalar, Southern Yucatan, Mexico. Rancho has incredible spa services that are available by appointment for our group. We go to sleep with the sounds of the lake lapping up against the shore by our comfortable cabanas.

Day 4- (b/l/d) We spend the day at Kohunich with its enormous stucco masks representing the different ages of the sun. It is located in a lovely area of the forest.

Day 5- (b/l/d) Today we stop at a wonderful cenote for a surreal swim and ceremony. Free time for massages during the mid-day. At the end of the day we visit Dzibache & Kinichna; the Pyramid of the Sun. This was a major site containing many glyphs and beautiful temples. The Pyramid allows us views of the surrounding site and jungle. This night we will camp out on top of the pyramid and experience an all night Mitote dreaming ceremony (if weather permits).

Day 6- (b/l/d) After breakfast we are off to Chicanna. This site is famous for Temple 2 which represents the Mayan Earth Monster. The doorway is the mouth through which the high priests entered the underworld out of which they emerged transfigured. Then we make our way to visit Becan. Becan is considered the capital of the Rio Bec region and surrounded by a large moat and crossed by seven bridges. The energy here is so peaceful and sacred it feels like being in a beautiful temple. We stay for the next two nights at Chicanna Ecolodge.

Spiritual Retreat Southern Yucatan Day 7- (b/l/d) Today we explore one of the most immense Mayan cities in this part of Mexico, Calakmul. This site is huge rivaling Tikal, and the Pyramids and stellae are stunning. Climbing to the top of the largest pyramid is an incredible experience as it is approximately 150 feet high and towers over the forest canopy. The ruins are located in the Calakmul Biosphere Reserve one of the last of the Yucatan rainforest. The wildlife here is amazing, spotting howler monkeys and large cats are not unusual.

Day 8- (b/-/d)This morning we make our way to back to Rancho Encantado for a restful day by the lake and spa services. Along the way we visit the beautiful ruins of Xpujil.

Day 9- (b/-/-) Today we leave the jungle and make our way back to the airport and get ready for our flights home. We say our last goodbyes, hugs and kisses as we prepare to take our new dream of heaven back to our lives!
