MALTA: Malta’s Sacred Goddess Temples – To be announced
A heart-felt exploration of the world’s oldest goddess temples
and energies on this sun-kissed Mediterranean island…
Set on green-carpeted land, under sunny blue skies and surrounded by crystal-clear azure seas the honey-colored temples of Malta were built on exceptional sites and would have been a powerful celebration of the abundance of Mother Nature.
Dwarf elephants once basked in the sun while eagles soared high above. Add to that another treasure, the island’s stone that traps the light in its corners and its curves; this golden stone earned Malta the name of Melita, “the island of honey.”
The design of the temples, their underground chambers and figurines that were found in situ indicate that they were dedicated to the goddess. Hal Saflieni Hypogeum, Tarxien, Mnajdra, Hagar Qim and Ggantija are the best-preserved examples of this temple culture from six thousand years ago. The tiny islands of Malta and Gozo still have dozens of these Neolithic sacred sites, all of which pre-date Stonehenge and the Pyramids.
You’ll have the opportunity to explore these truly ancient sites and make a conscious connection with their powerful energies and the spirit of place, guided by your experienced tour facilitators who are deeply knowledgeable of the goddess.
Malta’s central location in the middle of the Mediterranean made this small island country an important gateway to Europe, Africa and the East. It was successively occupied by Sicilians, Phoenicians, Carthaginians, Romans, Arabs, Normans, Knights of St. John, Napoleon and the British.
The rich and diverse cultural heritage is strikingly visible in the wonderfully varied architecture of its towns and many churches as well as the temples. Despite being invaded so frequently the Maltese people have always had an international reputation for their warm hospitality.
This generosity of spirit, the stunning natural beauty, combined with the feminine energy of the land will raise your spirits and set the scene for an unparalleled and transformational experience. Be prepared for your heart to be opened. As we visit the various sites we will make a conscious connection with the powerful energies of the land and learn how they respond to our attention. This is a tremendously transformative two-way process that has changed the lives of many including your tour guides.
We feel that these positive relationships with the Earth, especially at power centers, are necessary and beneficial in the pivotal times of change in which we live.
Our Beautiful Itinerary:
Day 1, Thur April 28th
Collection from Malta International Airport and transfer to our hotel in Sliema. Depending on your flight you will have time to rest up or to explore locally before a pre-dinner introductions meeting. Dinner at hotel.
Day 2, Fri April 29th
After breakfast in the hotel we have a short orientation meeting including a meditation to connect to the powerful goddess energies of the islands and to set your intentions for your time on Malta. We then go with our expert local guide to Mdina in the center of the island, considered to be one of the most beautiful examples of an inhabited medieval citadel in Europe. Explore its labyrinth of narrow winding pedestrian streets and get a feel for the island of Malta as you enjoy the panoramic views from the city ramparts. Free choice dinner not included.
Day 3, Sat April 30th
Today we take a short ferry ride to the neighboring island of Gozo, often called Calypso’s Island after the nymph who kept Ulysses there for seven years. Our guide will take us to Ggantija temples, renowned as the oldest free-standing structure in the world at 6,000 years old. This is a magnificent semi-ruined temple complex containing the largest stone on the islands and is a perfect place for a grounding ceremony using movement and voice.
Ta’ Cenc is the largest area of undeveloped land on Gozo and offers fabulous views of the surrounding countryside and across to Malta. The Citadella with its fortified walls sits in the center of the island and commands stunning views over the whole of Gozo. Contained within its boundaries are palaces and a cathedral. Standing out dramatically from the flat surrounding landscape is Ta’ Pinu Sanctuary and finally the natural beauty of Dwejra Bayand the picturesque Azure Window complete this full day on Gozo. Free choice dinner not included.
Day 4, Sun May 1st
Today is a free day for sunbathing, swimming, relaxing or exploring independently. However in the afternoon you may wish to join Peta and Lisa to take a ferry ride across to the Three Cities (Cospicua, Vittoriosa & Senglea), the least touristy cities on the island and the original settlements of the Knights Hospitallers who governed Malta during its wealthy historical period. Free choice dinner not included.
Today we explore the capital city of Valletta. Important places of interest include:
- St. John’s Co-cathedral, the magnificent church of the Knights Hospitallers
- Magnificent views of Grand Harbor from the elevated Barakka Gardens
- Archeology Museum housing some of the statuettes and artifacts found at the temples
- Auberge de Castille one of Valletta’s finest old buildings and now the official residence of the Prime Minister
- The Sacra Infermeria the original hospital of the Knights
This sixteenth century walled city is best explored on foot and many of its streets are narrow or pedestrian. Being a small city perched on the rocks above the harbor it is a joy to discover palaces, churches, piazzas and glorious views round the next corner. Lovers of architecture will be in heaven here.
See the largest harbor in Europe from the best vantage point – on the water, with a ninety minute afternoon boat trip around the Grand Harbor. This affords excellent views of the fortified cites of Valetta and the “Three Cites” on either sides of the harbor. Free choice dinner not included.
Day 6, Tues May 3rd
We start the day with visiting an active Christian church, Mosta Dome, the third largest unsupported dome or rotunda in Europe (after St. Peter’s in Rome and St. Paul’s in London). The pattern on the ceiling is influenced by sacred geometry, look at the patterns in the floor tiles as well.
We will also visit two of the oldest temples on the island – Ta’ Hagrat and Skorba. These are good places for making a personal connection to the temples through meditation.
After lunch we visit the Hal Saflieni temples at Tarxien including the world-famous Hypogeum. We will be guided through what is the most complete temple on Malta, an underground complex that is undamaged and truly atmospheric.
We complete the day in the picturesque fishing village of Marsaxlokk where you can relax sitting on the dock among the colorful fishing boats and have an early dinner in one of the restaurants on the waterfront. Free choice dinner not included.
Day 7, Wed May 4th
This morning we take a ride in small boats from Wied iz-Zurrieq along the rocky southern coastline visiting the many flooded caves including the Blue Grotto cave. We have planned to be there at the special time when the light penetrates furthest into the caves.
Inside the rock is tinted pink, mauve or orange by coral and minerals and the water can change color from indigo and navy to fluorescent azure and emerald according to the light.
To complete our visits to the goddess temples of Malta we’ll visit Hagar Qim and Mnajdra temple complexes which are five and a half thousand years old.
Situated overlooking the azure sea these are spectacular sites to visit. We will also discover a huge “ringing stone” and conduct a ceremony to give thanks for the riches of this journey. There will be some final free time before our farewell dinner at hotel.

Your Fabulous Facilitators:
As an adventurer, seeker of spirit, functions and conference organizer, group leader, entrepreneur, massage therapist, healing facilitator and mother, American born Cameron, has lived a very exciting and diverse life to date. She qualified as a Massage Therapist at the New England Institute of Muscle Therapy in Cambridge, Massachusetts and studied Shamanism with Naomi Lake, founder of Full Circle. In 1996, her passion for sacred sites led her to England where, through a serendipitous unfolding of events, she met her husband Glenn visiting the sacred sites in the southwest of England. Since then, she has been guiding people on spiritual journeys of discovery in England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, Malta and the crop circle phenomenon.
Utilizing her skills as a qualified healer, Cameron leads meditations at the ancient sites to re-connect with our spiritual purpose and with the Earth. Connecting with the spirit of Place and the ancestors through ceremony, she brings a heart centered approach and passion to the experience.
Sue Milner is a passionate journeyer of the soul, whose life path has encompassed a weaving together of psychological, spiritual and earth based wisdom practices. She is a qualified psychotherapist, having trained and practiced for 23 years in Process Oriented Psychology. This approach brings together Quantum Physics, Jungian Psychology and Shamanism. Through this she has been able to explore long term dreaming processes held in the body, and how these connect to the earth and hold seeds of knowledge for all of us.
She also has been authorized to teach the Dance of the Directions, a sacred Dance practice of the Tsalagi Nation. This works on many levels, keeping clear channels in the body so we can resonate with the land itself.
Sue’s passion is to find a way for women to make real the connection between land, body and their own unique dreaming process. Through journeying deeply and re-connecting to their own knowing through sacred sites, women receive the learning through direct experience.
Her love of sacred sites has spanned 30 years and taken her to many countries. She has journeyed with both Glenn and Cameron for some 16 years as a friend and colleague.
