Your Cartagena, Colombia Yoga Retreat Trip Leader« Back to Trip Overview
Director and Founder of Atmananda Yoga Sequence for over fourteen years, Jhon Tamayo (affectionately known as, JhonT) is a yoga master who believes in balance and inner bliss. Born in Colombia, he traveled throughout South America in search of a deeper understanding of the universe around him. After discovering his passion for yoga, he was determined to further his study and share its healing powers. He developed the Atmananda Yoga Sequence, which incorporates traditions of Hatha, Iyengar, and Ashtanga yoga with an emphasis on the breath to create a Vinyasa flow to deepen one’s practice.
Integrating his experiences from around South America and his enlightenment through his work with Guru Baba and Dr. Guevas, JhonT gained the wisdom to understand the concepts of destiny, freedom and inner peace and how they are attained to reach self-bliss. He then furthered his studies at the Ayurvedic Institute where he became a massage therapist. He is currently expanding his teachings of the Atmananda Yoga Sequence globally, where he can continue to share his devotion to yoga with others.
Atmananda was inspired by a vision of community. A vision to create a haven nestled in the Metropolitan hub where people can quiet their mind. A place to relax, take your shoes off and curl up with your favorite book. An environment that lends you to develop a strong, independent yoga practice or simply explore the finer aspects of meditation. A safe haven to receive holistic guidance for life’s discomforts.
Atmananda Yoga Sequence is a series of seven levels consisting of 71 yoga postures, specifically designed to incorporate the full range of forward bends, back bends, twists, inversions, arm balances, and standing balancing poses, gradually developing the skills of the practitioner to meditate in each posture. Tamayo’s in-depth knowledge of yoga’s philosophical aspects makes his teaching fully comprehensive. He pushes students beyond their expectations into realms unexplored, while placing a heavy emphasis on breath work and detailed alignment points.
“The word Atma means self, and the word Ananda means bliss. No one has the power to give you bliss, only you can elevate yourself to total self-bliss.”
